Media rooms & entertainment spaces

Flexible, social, high-performance - designed to the same standards as a dedicated cinema room.

High standards, different brief

A media room almost always has windows. It's a social space - you might watch with the lights up, chat through the adverts, and not necessarily have everyone facing forwards in the dark. That's a different brief to a dedicated cinema room, and it needs different design decisions.

What it doesn't need is lower standards.

CEDIA's RP22 guidelines - which define what a properly performing room looks like - don't distinguish between a cinema room and a media room. Performance is performance, whatever you're watching and however the lights are set.

A media room still has to sound great. Seating has to be in positions where the acoustics work. Bass has to be even and controlled. The display has to be bright enough for the room conditions.

Design matters.

Pick and mix

There's more flexibility here than you might realise - the best results often come from thinking across the range rather than picking a category.

A relaxed cinema room with windows towards the back and blackout blinds - wonderful, and barely compromised. A media room that becomes genuinely cinematic at the touch of a button, blinds down, lights dimmed, a full Atmos soundtrack filling the room. Or, a more classic lounge or family room that just happens to sound and feel great, because the design was done well.

A lot of the best rooms sit somewhere in the middle - combining the sociability of a media room with the performance of a cinema, in proportions that suit the way you actually live.

The conversation about which room you actually need - and where on that range it sits - is a big part of what we work out together at the start of every project.
